29 women killed in Karachi stampede

At least 29 women and children were killed in a stampede after a religious gathering in the southern Pakistani city of Karachi.

A Reuters correspondent counted the bodies of 14 women and five children in Karachi's Liaquat National Hospital. Seven more bodies were brought to another hospital in the city.

The stampede was triggered when a girl fell as she left the mosque. According to reports she cried out as she fell which caused a wave of panic.



Thousands of women had gathered at the mosque with their children to mark the birthday of the Prophet Mohammad, which falls on Tuesday.

Pakistan is a predominantly Muslim nation and to mark the anniversary people hold big gatherings in mosques, attend rallies and sing religious hymns.

Agar dono leaders mil ker pakistan awwam ki falah aur behboodi key liye soch saktey hain to shayid yehi tabdeeli chahiye - magar aisi batein to ham pehley bhi dekh chukey hain. Aur hakoomat opposition per aur opposition hakoomat ko nakam karney key liye jumley baziyaan to karti rehti hain.... Electricity load-shedding in Karachi ends: KESC
KARACHIKarachi, but sudden 300 megawatt electricity shortage from Wapda resulted in severe electricity crisis in the city which caused blackout in several parts of the city.

However, Wapda resumed supplying 520 megawatt electricity from Saturday at around 12 p.m.

The spokesman told now the electricity load-shedding was brought to an end, cautioning possible repeated tripping due frequency fluctuation in the power supply by Wapda

ISLAMABAD, April 28: The opposition launched a fresh assault on the government over law and order and how it runs parliament at the start of a National Assembly session on Friday, but the treasury benches responded with apparent unconcern.

With most government benches in the house being empty, the most serious attack was directed at the ruling coalition partner Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM), which was accused by the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal (MMA) of being responsible for an attack a fortnight ago on a religious rally in Karachi that killed nearly 50 people.
