French authorities have expelled an Algerian man believed to have links to a terrorist network, the French interior ministry has announced. Khellaf Hamam, 38, was repatriated by boat from the port city of Marseilles.

Saddam's trial to begin after constitution vote

Baghdad: Iraqi authorities plan to put Saddam Hussein on trial within five days after the October 15 referendum on the new constitution, an official close to the proceedings has said.

"Saddam's trial will start right after the October referendum between October 16 and at the latest October 20," said an official close to the proceedings.

The official spoke after government spokesman Laith Kubba announced that Iraq had carried out its first executions since Saddam was ousted in 2003.

Saran meets Musharraf

ISLAMABAD: Indian Foreign Secretary Shyam Saran today met President Pervez Musharraf and briefed him about the outcome of the talks he had with his counterpart here.

Saran, who held wide-ranging discussions with Pakistan Foreign Secretary Riaz Mohammad Khan yesterday, informed the President about the steps taken to give an impetus to the peace process.

Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan Shiv Shankar Menon accompanied Saran .

Aziz says no trade ties with Israel

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz said that Pakistan would not recognize Israel nor establish trade ties till independence of Palestine.

In a press conference held at Parliament House, Aziz said that NFC issue would soon be resolved and provinces showed positive attitude and gave complete authority to president and prime minister.

Mr. Aziz said that the purpose of the meeting of Khurshid Kasuri and Israeli foreign minister was to provide assistance for resolution of Palestinian issue through dialogue.

ISLAMABAD: General Secretary of Pakistan Peoples Party Azad Kashmir Chaudhery Yaseen has refused to attend intra Kashmir conference which is being held in held Kashmir.

Other Kashmiri leader Sardar Quiam, PM Azad Kashmir Sardar Sikandar Hyatt, President Sardar Anwar, Afzal Ijaz, Barrister Sultan Mahamood, Sardar Khalid Ibrahim already refused to attend this conference.
