Abdullah ibn Mas’ud reported: I entered upon the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, while he was suffering from fever. I said, “O Messenger of Allah, you are suffering from a strong fever.” The Prophet said, “Yes. I suffer from fever as much as two men among you.” I said, “Is that because you will have a double reward?” The Prophet said, “Yes it is so. There is no Muslim who is afflicted with pain as much as the prick of a thorn or more except that Allah will expiate his sins just as leaves fall from a tree.”

Abu Huraira reproted: A desert Arab came to the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, and he said, “O Messenger of Allah, show me a deed by which I may enter Paradise.” The Prophet said, “Worship Allah and never associate anything with Him, establish the prescribed prayer, and pay the charity which is obligatory upon you, and observe the fast of Ramadan.” The man said, “By Him in Whose hand is my soul, I will never add anything to it, nor will I lessen anything from it.” When the man turned his back, the Prophet said, “He who is pleased to see a man from the people of Paradise should look to him.”

Aisha reported: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would get ready for sleep, he would blow into his hands, recite the two chapters of refuge (surah al-falaq and surah an-nas), and he would wipe his hands over his body.

Abu Huraira reported: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said, “There are seven persons whom Allah will shade on a Day when there is no shade but His. They are a just ruler, a young person who grew up in the worship of Allah, a person whose heart is attached to the mosques, two persons who love each other who meet and depart from each other for the sake of Allah, a man whom a beautiful woman of high status seduces but he rejects her by saying I fear Allah, a person who spends in charity and conceals it such that his right hand does not know what his left hand has given, and a person who remembered Allah in private and he wept.”

Adi ibn Hatim reported: I was in the presence of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, when two men came, one complaining of poverty and the other complaining of robbery on the highways. The Messenger of Allah said, “As for the obstruction of the roads, it will not be long until a caravan will travel to Mecca without any guard. As for poverty, the Hour will not be established until one of you goes out looking to give charity but will find no one to accept it. Each one of you will stand in front of Allah without a barrier or interpreter between him and Allah. Allah will ask: Did I not give you wealth? He will say yes. Allah will ask: Did I not send you a messenger? He will say yes. Then he will look to his right and see nothing but Hellfire, and he will look to his left and see nothing but Hellfire. Therefore, any one of you should save himself from the Hellfire by giving even a half of a date in charity, and if you do not have it then say a kind word.”
