Archive folders to save disk space

Windows XP makes it easy to compress or zip files. This is especially handy when you want to send a folder containing several files in an e-mail message. To compress a file or folder:

    1. Right-click the file that you want to compress.
    2. Point to Send To and click Compressed (Zipped) Folder.

Windows XP immediately creates a new compressed folder in the same location as the source file. You can identify the new compressed folder by a little zipper on the folder's icon. You can then safely delete the original file.

                    Stop an unresponsive application
Many of you know this trick, but this is a useful one that everyone should know. If a program "freezes" or stops responding to you, do this:

                    1. Press Ctrl-Alt-Delete on your keyboard.
                    2. Click Task Manager.
                    3. In the Windows Task Manager window, select the program that's not responding, and then click End Task.
                    4. A confirmation window appears. Click End Now.
                    5. If this doesn't work, you can shut down by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Delete and then clicking the Shut Down button.

                      Windows 2000 Tips & Tricks
Windows 2000 Command Prompt Auto Complete
This trick helps to avoid headaches when using the command prompt
console. It turns on the auto-complete feature so that when you type
'cd d' and hit the tab key, the console displays a list of folders
that begin with the 'd' letter, and you can then choose the one you're
looking for, right from the console instead of typing its path.
                      1.Log on as Administrator,
2.Click Start, and then click Run,
                      3.Type Regedit and OK,
                      4.Double click HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE,
                      5.Double click SOFTWARE,
                      6.Double click Microsoft,
                      7.Double click Command Processor,
8.In the right pane of Regedit, double click the 'CompletionChar'
                      DWORD value,
                      9.Type 9 click OK,
                      10.Close Regedit,
                      11.Click start/programs/ accessories/ command prompt,
12.Type 'cd d' and hit the Tab key: the first folder that matches the
'd' letter is displayed (you can choose folders by using the Tab key).
