Utility bill payment machines
With time being of great essence in the fast-moving world of today, it is counterproductive for a developing country like Pakistan to have a system of payment of utility bills that results in month-end queues. In many countries of the world this problem has been overcome with the development of advanced high-speed bill payment terminals/kiosks, speeding up and simplifying the task of paying utility bills.It is heartening to know that this system is now being introduced in Pakistan which will be a source of much relief and of course convenience to the citizens. As a first step in this much-needed direction, the National Database and Registration Authority (Nadra) entered into an agreement -- a memorandum of understanding (MoU) -- with the Islamabad Electric Supply Company (Iesco) on Wednesday whereby Nadra will install utility bill payment machines (kiosks) in the federal capital for online payment of bills.
According to Nadra Chairman Brigadier (r) Saleem Ahmed Moeen about 50 machines, in line with international standards, will be installed at the Swift Registration Centres and Customer Facilitation Centres of the utility companies besides public places in the twin cities of Rawalpindi and Islamabad.
With the need for this facility being extremely pressing in the major cities of the country, Nadra will expand the Bill Machine Project to the rest of the country and some 500 machines are to be installed by the end of the current fiscal year in major urban centres. These machines will provide round-the-clock facility to citizens.
