The Bank of New York, formed in 1784, was the first corporate stock to be traded on the New York Stock Exchange after its formation. However, it has not been continually listed on the exchange.
The NYSE(New York Stock Exchange>>A corporation, operated by a board of directors, responsible for listing securities, setting policies and supervising the stock exchange and its member activities. The NYSE also oversees the transfer of members' seats on the Exchange, judging whether a potential applicant is qualified to be a specialist.) was formed in 1792 when 24 brokers, auctioneers and merchants signed the Buttonwood Agreement, in which they agreed to trade securities within the organization on a commission basis. Trading took place on Wall Street around the Buttonwood Tree on Wall Street.
