What we have to do here? hmmm quite easy ....I will bring a quote here from big personalities. This is quite a remarkable way of bringing the best out of members way of thinking - jeeti raho kudiyo :p. Well everyone has his/her own way of understanding and then explaining a quote.

There are no gains without pains .... I'd say if you are not prepared to face the toughness then you are not able to taste the sweetness. To get the taste of success you first have to go through the strugle of how to achive this, what to do and when to make it count - if you are not prepared to do that in other words if you are not prepared to go through the pain, you cannot get anything!

I can put some more words into my explaining:

The work I do, is to install some critical systems and then run those systems. The installation procedure is an excellent example of gaining the benefit of a successfull installation. The procedures counts: Preparation (in this face everything HAS to be perfect and to-the-point. If any face of the preparation fails, the end result is a failure and then deman a very deep analyse of errors and correction of them - which is always time demanding) The preparation face is the most boring face because it's about to planing, collectiong the right informations, writing down critical aspects of the business need, reading reading and reading notes - boring stuff - but but but as said before if this face is ignored the end result can fail and you some times have to re-install.)

So by going through the boring face of it and gaining the real knowledge we can spare alot of time afterwards - this pain gives us the real gain :)

Nice topic Aania, it is quite flexible topic to write on. Here is a little from my end.

This quotation indeed implies to the struggle and reciprocally this struggle may be incorporated with the pain. Any struggle, effort, exertion or input towards particular direction as to get the required output is a pain. Pain in a sense, as it's human nature that he wants to achieve heights without any effort which is almost impossible, but when it comes to gain or to accomplish it one must have to seek out the practical solution. The effort that one put in this practicle solution is the pain and indeed the end product is gain. More than the quote it is a motivation that stimulates us to cope with the obstacles bit courageously in the way of our achievement. Practice is input, achievement is output...practice is pain while achievement is gain...what to say more
