With the arrival of winter, we often take our skin-care routine for granted, believing that the products we've used all year long will carry us through the change of seasons. After all, we are using products we found (in many cases, after an extensive -- and expensive -- search) to be the best for our skin type and budget.
Despite the increase in rain , winter brings new challenges to beauty care because the harsh elements and freezing temperatures tend to have a drying effect on skin and hair. Hence in winter a great care should be taken to protect the skin with various measures regarding diets and lifestyles. By following just a few precautions, we can keep our skin healthy and glowing. :ghug:
Drink plenty of water to keep the skin hydrated. Internal hydration keeps skin cells plump and healthy. Water also helps transport nutrients to skin cells, keeping them nourished.
Include honey in the diet.
Water-rich vegetables like leafy greens and green-skinned squashes are great for internal hydration as well as skin nourishment.
Your diet must ideally comprise of Cane juice, milk and clarified butter (ghee) during winter.
Gorge on warm and heavy food to fulfill the requirement of increased body fire.
Skin care life styles for winter
Always wear warm clothes which are made of wool, silk and cotton.
When you are wearing clothes in layers wear cotton clothes next to your skin as they do not cause skin allergy. Moreover they absorb sweat. Where as synthetic clothes fail to do so. Unabsorbed sweat harbors microorganisms which cause skin infections.
Avoid long hot showers and bath. over-exposure to hot water can dry skin out even more.
Avoid repeated washing of face. This washes off natural oils from your skin and makes the skin dry, scaly and wrinkled. Use Luke warm water instead of hot water to wash face.
A light application of massage oil right before you go to bed can keep skin on extremities lubricated and also help you fall asleep faster.
Avoid tight socks which constrict blood flow. Feet bundled for winter can perspire heavily, trapping bacteria: feet should be carefully washed at least twice a day, and then dried thoroughly , specially between toes.
Skin care accessories for winter

Chapped lips are a common problem in winter months. Wear lip balm on lips to prevent chapping of lips.
A good moisturizer, suitable for your skin type, is a must in winter, to keep skin lubricated. For best results, apply the moisturizer to damp skin immediately after cleansing, to help lock water into your skin.
Pay extra attention to hands and feet, where skin can crack and peel when dry. Always apply moisturizer after you wash your hands.
Weekly exfoliation is important to remove dead skin cells and prevent skin from looking dull. But make sure you use a very gentle exfoliating product.
Winter hair care. Dry hair, dandruff, and split ends are common hair problems in the winter months. Avoid overwashing your hair and overusing hot blow dryers, curling irons, and hot curlers. By wrapping a towel with good absorption properties around your hair for a few minutes after washing, you will cut down your hair dryer time. If possible, avoid chemical hair treatments, such as perming, during winter months. Use conditioners generously in the winter.
You will notice that many of the ingredients featured in natural skin moisturizers are also found in natural hair products. These include: chamomile, rosemary, and vitamins A, B, C, and E, among many others. Lastly, to restore shine to dull winter hair, eat more protein from sources such as nuts, peas, and beans.
Health-care from the inside out. Extra vitamins are a must during the cold weather, when we are bombarded with germs and bacteria and our immune system's resistance seems to be weaker. The best thing for skin is good nutrition. Dark green leafy vegetables are excellent preventing some skin dryness, cracking, and other problems. Take supplement vitamins A, B-complex, C, and E, along with a multimineral.
Enjoy the winter with a glowing skin.:lpop:
