The Boat Race is one of the oldest sporting events in history.It is a rowing race (8 oared- boat) between arch university rivals Cambridge and Oxford. It was started by two friends back in 1829 and has now become an annual fixture. Every year the fittest crew members take part in the challenge on River Thames around Easter time.
Until now- Cambridge has won 81 and Oxford 76 races.
Cambridge wear light blue and Oxford wear dark blue. There are 9 members of each team.One of then is the Cox, who is the navigator and is the only person that can see in which direction the boat is going.
The recent race took place on 7th April this year. It was won by Cambridge. This year the a swimmer made his entry by disrupting the race. He was arrested by police and the race had to be re-started!
The drama was still not over as one member of Oxford Team collapsed at the finish line!!He was taken to hospital and has since recovered!!!
