Pakistan Second Largest Mobile Market After India
An Increase of over 145 per cent in year-on-year growth rate for the number of subscribers has made Pakistan the second fastest mobile growth market across South and Southeast Asia. The country takes the penultimate spot behind India, says a report published by Business Monitor International (BMI). The report adds that the level of growth is expected to continue over the next few years, spurred one by a highly competitive market place and a government that is encouraging of inward investment. BMI compared 14 Asia Pacific markets in term of competitiveness and investor friendless for its Business Environment Rankings. This year, Pakistan has made its way out of the bottom two and is ties in ninth position with Indonesia, ahead of Vietnam, Thailand, China and the Philippines. BMI is confident that Pakistan will join the small band of countries with over 100 million mobile subscribers during the second half of 2008 and that by the end of 2010; there should be just over 1200 million cellular costumers in Pakistan.
