Convenience store clerk killed

Columbus police used helicopters and dogs to search the Woodcrest Town Homes apartment complex this afternoon after a clerk was found shot to death in a convenience store at E. Linvingston Avenue and Lonsdale Road.
Muhammad Aslam, 38, of Pickerington had worked in the Convenient Plus Food Mart for three to four months and was in the process of buying it, owner Chaudhary Ansar said.
Police searched the complex, which is behind the store, because a witness reported seeing a man believed to be the killer running from the store and heading that way.
Aslam's relatives gathered at the store at 5435 E. Livingston on the East Side sobbing and grieving after his body was found behind the counter just before noon.
The tape in the store's surveillance camera was missing, and the killer might have taken it, police detective Vincent Houpe said.
Ansar said Aslam was born in Pakistan but had lived in the United States for 20 years and leaves behind a wife and three children.
