Couple in court for torturing maid
An Arab couple is being tried for reportedly torturing a Filipina maid.
The couple, an Iraqi visitor and a Kuwaiti female manager, were said to have wet B.S.'s, 21, clothes and drenched her blanket before forcing her to sleep on the floor after setting the air conditioner to its highest level.
The Dubai Public Prosecution had charged the 36-year-old Kuwaiti and 29-year-old Iraqi with molesting the housemaid, stuffing ice and charcoal into her private parts, beating her and stubbing cigarettes near her private parts. The female suspect was also charged with illegally detaining the victim for three days in her flat in Dubai.
The defendants have denied their charges and pleaded innocent at the Dubai Court of First Instance.
The female suspect told the court that she kept the housemaid in her flat for three days when she was away. "But, I left the keys with someone to take care of the claimant," she said. The Iraqi defendant also denied the Filipina's accusations.
The housemaid claimed she was molested, beaten up, illegally detained for three days and banned from using the phone.
She told the public prosecution that she opened the flat door with a kitchen knife and escaped to the Philippines Consulate where she reported her ordeal.
The court reconvenes next month to hear the victim and other witnesses.
