Ground Ceremony Of Bhasha Dam...!

ISLAMABAD, March 16 (Online): The scheduled visit of President General Pervez Musharraf to the site of Bhasha Diamir dam for inauguration of the project has been cancelled due to inclement weather for the third time.
New dates for the visit of President General Pervez Musharraf for the ground breaking ceremony of Bhasha Diamir dam will be announced later.
Bhasha Diamer Dam would be constructed over a 100 km of land at Chilas in District Diamer at an estimated cost of 6.5 billion dollar and would be completed in 7 to 8 years.
According to Wapda sources required laboratories and colonies would be constructed for completion of the project and 323 km road would also be constructed.
Bhasha Diamer Dam would generate 4500 MW of electricity with a gross storage capacity of 7.3 Million Acre Feet of water, around 40 km west of Chilas and 210 km north of capital Islamabad.
The Dam will preserve 15 per cent of annual flow of the river, covering an area of 110 square km.
The dam would also require realignment of the Karakoram Highway, 100 km of which will be submerged in the reservoir.
President as part of his water vision had announced construction of five mega dams and all the projects will be completed by the year 2016. After the completion of this dam Kalabagh, Akhori, Kartzara Dam.
