    Sunstoke remedies

Summer is at its peak, everyone is thoroughly disgusted by the heat, and people think it’s the worst time of the year. I won’t blame them. Had there been no vacations I would think the same, but vacations make me feel it’s not as bad as we think.

There is no doubt that the heat is unbearable! The power breakdowns across the country make it even worse. It’s so hot that people are having sunstrokes; they are fainting due to excessive heat.

Sunstroke, which is a life-threatening emergency, is common in such hot weather. However, it can be prevented or cured with some precautionary measures. Sunstroke is a condition, which is caused by excessive exposure to heat or sun. This is so because when one works in the hot weather a lot of water is lost from the body in the form of sweat.

Symptoms of sunstroke include high fever, headache, dizziness, nausea, high pulse rate, dry and hot skin and unconsciousness, etc. Loss of water from the human body can also cause dehydration. According to medical experts a person can sweat 2.5 litres of water per hour if he/she works in a hot environment for example kitchen or office without cooling system. This clearly shows the need to take in high amounts of water. Hence one should always drink a lot of water and juices. Also, eat fresh fruits in summers.

Whenever you are going out in summer, do not forget to take a bottle of cold water along.

It has also been found that fruits create resistance in the human body against the weather. Hence, it is very important to eat fresh fruits, especially in the summer.

If a person suffers from sunstroke he/she should be immediately shifted to a cooler place, out of the sun, his clothes should be loosened and body washed or sponged with cool water or wrap in wet sheets and fan for quick evaporation. This will allow the human body to cool down quickly. It is not advisable to give the patient anything by mouth even medicine until his/her condition becomes stable. The use of pineapple is one of the best home remedies for sunstroke, which is used to quench thirst.

However, it is always better to take precaution and not let it happen in the first place. This can be done by simply drinking lots and lots of water, drinking juices, eating fresh fruits and avoiding going out unnecessarily in the heat. Your mantra for summer should be “Drink more water!” If you do that don’t be afraid of going out and having fun, though it’s better to go out in the evening. After all, summer is all about having fun, it’s your time, so enjoy
