  • Kent poised to announce signing of Matt Coles in next 24 hours

KENT are poised to announce the re-signing of Matt Coles.

The England Lions all-rounder, 24, is set to rejoin his home county just 18 months after leaving for Hampshire.

Coles took 41 wickets in 15 County Championship games last summer to help Hampshire win promotion to Divison One.

But he left the Ageas Bowl by mutual consent on Saturday with a club statement claiming he had not "settled as he, or we, would have liked".

Express Sport understand he will be announced as a Kent player tomorrow.

Coles was sent home from the England Lions' tour of Australia in 2013 for persistent late-night drinking.

But captain Rob Key is adamant he can get the best out of his close mate and pushed hard for the club to complete a deal to bring him back.

Coles joins former England batsman Joe Denly in returning to his boyhood county.

Denly left Kent in 2011 but is back at the St Lawrence Ground after spending three years at Middlesex.

Kent are yet to sign an overseas player for the season, which kicks off next month.

But there is a feeling inside the club that they are happy with the signings they've made and bringing in a new face is not a priority.
